June 2010 Trestleboard

From the Master

Our stated meeting for the month of May was held on May 8, 2010. The dinner before the meeting was prepared and served by the ladies of Rohnerville-Redwood  Chapter 76 OES. It was delicious as usual.

A Golden Vererans Award was presented to Brother Robert D. Johnston for his fifty years of membership in our Lodge. Congratulations Bob!

After the presentation, the ladies were treated to a wonderful slide show on underwater photography taken in the waters off Mexico.

Mr. Colin Gareth Knipe was elected to the receive the degrees of masonry in our Lodge. Congratulations Colin!

A first degree will be held on May 26, 2010 at 7:30 PM for Colin. Please plan to attend.

For the next three months, the officers of the Lodge will serve as chief cooks and bottle washers. The planned dinner for the month of June will be fish (Perhaps salmon, if available.) or spaghetti for those who don’t like fish, along with salad and dessert. Please plan to attend and sample our fine food.

A special meeting was held on May 15, 2010 at 2:00 PM to honor Brother Richard H. Sweet PM with the Hiram Award. A special invocation was given by Brother Jay Grunert PM which he had authored for the occasion. The Worshipful Gary Quintrell, Inspector of the 105th Masonic District gave a very informative talk on the origin of the Hiram Award. A special thanks to the ladies of Rohnerville-Redwood Chapter 76 OES for providing and serving the refreshments for the meeting.

10th Annual California Masonic Symposium

Brethren,

The 10th annual California Masonic Symposium is fast approaching on June 5, 2010! This symposium is a milestone not only because it is the tenth annual, but also because in the course of ten years, the interest in Freemasonry and its culture and history has expanded exponentially in our own lodges, as well as academia. The California Masonic Symposium encourages scholasticism in Freemasonry by providing a platform for the foremost historians and scholars who recognize the distinct impact the Craft has had upon societies internationally, particularly the Americas.

This year’s symposium explores Freemasonry’s arrival on the shores of North America by way of the armies of the Crown and its subsequent role in the emergence of American Democracy and its influence on the American soldier.

The 2010 speakers include:

Henry Wilson Coil Lecturer Dr. Steven C. Bullock, professor of United States history at Worcester Polytechnic Institute and author of Revolutionary Brotherhood: Freemasonry and the Transformation of the American Social Order, 1730-1840

Matthew Crow, graduate student in American history at the University of California, Los Angeles and co-developer of the UCLA course Freemasonry, Civil Society, and American Democracy

· Dr. Jessica L. Harland-Jacobs, associate professor at the University of Florida and author of Builders of Empire: Freemasons and British Imperialism, 1717-1927

Panel discussion to follow…
